ylva sommer is an independent filmmaker and video artist. born and raised in 1994 in baden-württemberg, ylva has found her main focus in telling stories through film – broadly positioned with experience as director of photography for short fiction films, documentaries, independent art films, social commercials and many more. self-employed since 2015, bachelor of arts in media production 2018. since then she has been working on productions of all sizes – either as a freelance camerawoman and editor (“das pizzaimperium” 2018, independent art films “blaue gedanken” since 2019, social spots for ‘one for the planet’ 2022-2023, fiction short film „storage People“ 2024, and many more) or as a camera assistant on television and cinema productions (tatort hamburg 2018, polizeiruf münchen 2019, feature film “mission ulja funk” 2019, jenseits der spree berlin 2022, feature film “what you can see of me” 2023, WAPO bodensee 2023). she also completed her first feature-length documentary film as editor in 2025 (“go therefore and learn”, 90min) which will premiere at internationale hofer filmtage. additionally, there has been an increase in collective work and the exploration of new, creative ways of collaborating, for example with the „fabriktheater kollektiv“ for the production of „FETZN“ – a theatre play with 10 live cameras – or as part of the “female focus crew”, which is responsible for the live video transmission on palapa stage at FUSION festival (2024, 2025).
